The Lancet Commission of the value of death

Writer's picture: iLIVE ProjectiLIVE Project

Last year the Lancet held a webinar on the value of death. The main message was one very similar to the iLive Project: normalize death. Specifically there was a call to “Bring death back to life”. In the webinar is was discussed how there is a death system in place which encompasses social, economic, technical, philosophical, cultural and medical practices during the last phase of life, and that there needs to be a realistic utopic when we think of the future of palliative care. The Lancet recommends based on the commission that there should be clear country specific guidelines for withholding and withdrawing treatment , death literacy should be taught and that for health care professionals management of suffering should be the goal along with extension of life.
